We hope everyone has a happy + safe 4th of July! We hope everyone has a happy + safe 4th of July!
🎊
Our team will be off tomorrow enjoying the long weekend and our office will be closed until Monday.
It’s all in the details… the primary purpose o It’s all in the details… the primary purpose of our summer garden maintenance visits is to keep the plant beds in the best shape possible so that our clients get to come home to a well tended and beautiful space. Often that gets misunderstood that our only task is weeding, but we do SO many more things.

Our highly trained Fine Garden Leads are ultimately tasked with:
- weeding (yes, that is still a top priority), keeping in mind each client’s specific preferences for fit and finish level
- deadheading perennials to help push new/healthy growth
- identifying all plant material and keeping track of corresponding care practices for each plant (what to prune, how and when)
- removing fallen branches/brush that may have come down in a storm between our visits
- pruning out dead, unhealthy or unsightly branches in shrubs (anything that makes it feel “too wild”)
- appropriately identifying and removing invasive plants or grasses that can take over planting beds
- selectively removing healthy plant material that may just be overtaking the beds (impacting the design intent)
- consistently inspecting plant material to make sure there are no unwanted insects, fungus or diseases during the growing season
- clearing off debris on pathways/patios or near entrances that give a fresh and clean appearance

Oh- and doing all that while being friendly, courteous and respectful to our clients, their families, pets and neighbors.

It’s actually quite a lot to keep track of, and do it well. And the results can be subtle- as with the photos here. But sometimes consistent, well executed care, and attention to detail, can make a world of difference in the overall appearance of a garden space.

PSA Announcement📣 Our team of Fine Gardeners PSA Announcement📣

Our team of Fine Gardeners have been noticing an increase in Poison Ivy on our clients properties this year. So many people do not know what Poison Ivy looks like so we wanted to take a moment to help educate and alert our followers....

Identification:
▪️alternate branching habit on vine and in veining of leaves that is flush with the leaf surface
▪️compound leaves with exactly three leaflets - center leaflet has longer stem than sides. Can have teeth, “thumbs” or smooth leaflets
▪️vine has “hairy” appearance as rootlets attach to climbing surface
▪️young leaves can be bright green or rusty-red tinged green
▪️often found in garden beds as a runner with leaflets cropping up along the ground. Can also grow as a shrubby plant or as a climbing vine.

Methods of Removal:
▪️Pulling: grasp the plant firmly near the base, wearing protective gear, and pull slowly and steadily to try and get as much of the root system as possible.
▪️Cutting Vines: if climbing a tree or structure, cut the vine at ground level. The remaining vine will die and you can pull it down later on.
▪️Herbicides: get one labeled for Poison Ivy. Read and follow the label directions carefully.

Remember:
▪️Make sure to wear long sleeves, plants and glove when removing Poison Ivy
▪️Wash up afterward using dish soap or Tecnu and wash all your clothes
▪️NEVER burn Poison Ivy
▪️If you are one of the lucky ones who are not allergic, be thankful 😅

Phew, it is officially SCORCHING out there today! Phew, it is officially SCORCHING out there today!
🥵
With these crazy high temperatures, it's not just us humans who need to stay hydrated – our beautiful container flowers are feeling the heat too!
☀
Despite all the rain we have been getting, your containers will still need water during this heat wave! We like to recommend a good, deep soak in the morning and potentially another in the evening.
💦
It is important to aim your watering can or hose nozzle directly at the soil around the base of the plants rather than overhead watering.

Ever wonder what we mean when we talk about landsc Ever wonder what we mean when we talk about landscape enhancements?

This is the perfect example.

A beautiful lakefront home in Skaneateles had some uninspiring spireas (say that five times fast), and the homeowner wanted more of a layered garden with beautiful blooming plants.

The best part is we were able to get this turned around for her in just 24 hours. We created a photo-realistic concept that illustrated what the plants would look like after a few growing seasons, and off to the garden center we went to select the plant materials. Our crew had the new bed prep done and ready to put plants in upon our return. Plants were set in place and put in the ground.

We really do plant joy!
