Rainy Spring? Perfect Time to Pull Invasives!

This soggy spring might be making your garden squishy underfoot, but there is an upside — wet soil makes it way easier to pull up invasive plants like Garlic Mustard and Lesser Celandine.

Now’s the time to act before these bad guys take over:
Lesser Celandine (Ficaria verna)
This one’s a very bad weed — it spreads fast, smothers native plants, and is tough to control due to its sneaky underground tubers and bulblets.
Look for shiny, dark green kidney-shaped leaves and cheerful yellow flowers (8–12 petals).
Best pulled now — but be thorough! All bulbs and roots must go, or it’ll be back next year.

Garlic Mustard (Alliaria petiolata)
A two-year invader with serious spread power.
- First year: low-growing heart-shaped leaves.
- Second year: tall stalks with small white four-petal flowers.
Pull anything with buds or blooms right away before it goes to seed — and always bag and trash debris from either plant, never compost!

Pro Tip: Don’t let the rain keep you inside — invasive control now means fewer headaches later. Plus, it’s pretty satisfying to yank out a whole root system in one go!
