FALL CLEANUP SEASON IS HERE!

🌿Perennial Cutbacks: make sure to cutback plants with disease or insect pest problems to reduce the chance of infection the following season. In this case, you can see we cut back all the Hosta leaves because dead hosta leaves harbor slug eggs that will hatch and ruin next year's new leaves!

🍁Leaf Removal: you do not need to worry about getting every single leaf out of your garden beds because if you do, you are running the risk of removing and destroying overwintering insects. At PPS, we normally take the first layer of leaves that fall when we make our cutbacks and then as more leaves fall into the beds, we leave them for winter cover (as long as the leaves do not get too thick!).

Let's give our newest team member KARA a big HELLO!

Kara joined our team Maintenance Team this summer after feeling a need to spend more time outside, hands in the dirt and sunshine on her face! Her background is in Graphic Design and we are already seeing those skills translate into gardening. Kara is very detail oriented, a quick learner and a great asset to this team!

In Kara's free time she likes to work with her bees. She loves catching honey bee swarms, HOW COOL! She also likes to go hiking and camping with her dog!

Callicarpa americana are really showing off right now with stunning purple fruits which are eaten by birds, squirrels and other wildlife. There is no wonder why the common name of this plant is Beauty Berry 😍

Everyone meet Alexa who is one of our On-Call-Gardeners!

Alexa works at a local florist full time but on most Wednesdays, when she is off from the florist, she comes and helps out the maintenance team! Before finding her passion working with plants and flowers, Alexa worked in the child care industry. She is learning fast, has a positive attitude and is incredibly reliable. We are so lucky to have her be part of our team.

When Alexa isn't at the florist or with us at PPS, you can find her in her own garden working with her cut flowers! She also loves spending time with her dog Paisley and her fiance!
